The COIFPM features a robust state-of-the-art core-flooding setup designed to study single or multi-phase flow and the respective relevant displacement physics at the core scale.

Moreover, the flow system is capable of carrying out cleaning and wettability restoration of reservoir cores at high capacity. The system can handle high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions of up to 10,000 psi and 250 degrees Celsius. All metallic parts of the setup exposed to fluids are fabricated out of highly corrosion-resistant Hastelloy. These rust-free and corrosion-resistant environments are maintained even under HPHT conditions. The core-flooding setup consists of three dual-cylinder pumps that are built specifically for applications that involve a pulse-free fluid delivery or receiving at constant rate and pressure. The pumps are used for fluids retraction and injection and back pressure regulation. Two core holders with various dimensions, with working pressures of 10,000 psi are placed inside the oven. Two precise back-pressure regulators with working pressures of 10,000 psi allow collection of the effluents received from the core, into a burette or fraction collector connected to an inline balance. This scheme allows for accurate measurement of production volumes. A user-friendly software is used to control the setup and acquire the data throughout the experiments. Additionally, the high experimental capacity of the core-flooding capabilities at the COIFPM allow for an unprecedented amount of data to be obtained for a wide array of sample types. This is ultimately enabling faster, more efficient sample and reservoir characterization for scientists and sponsor organizations.
